Salade is the second book Frost* have designed for acclaimed chef Damien Pignolet. Damien’s first book, French, captured the essence of classic French cooking in Australia. Design wise, Salade is a continuation of French, using the same subtle typographical details that reference the content of the book –for example, using ligatures to represent aroma. As part of the design evolution of Salade, we worked with artist Michael Fitz James, who created the logo for Damien’s restaurant, Bistro Moncur, which appears on the front cover of French. For the new cover, the heart shaped plate becomes a heart shaped tomato – a simple, graphic representation of the subject at hand.
The new book will be published August 30 by Penguin Lantern.
